Athens Excursions

 

As part of your stay in Athens, we can offer any of the following pre-booked excursions. All bookings must be made at the original time of booking your holiday. Excursion bookings made after we issue our original holiday confirmation may incur an administration charge.

1. Athens Sightseeing

Daily commencing at 09.00 and terminating 13.00 - Cost £50  per person.

This tour gives you the opportunity to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens such a fascinating city. An expert guide will take you to see the centre of the city including Constitution Square (Syntagma), the House of Parliament, the Memorial to the Unknown Soldier, and the National Library. The drive down Herod Atticus Street reveals the Evzones Guards in their colourful uniforms and the Presidential Palace. On your way to the Acropolis you will see the Panathenaic Stadium where the first Olympic Games of the modern era were held in 1896, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian's Arch. On reaching the Acropolis you will visit the museum and the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens including the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and the Parthenon.

2. Cape Sounion

Daily commencing at 15.30 and terminating 19.30 - Cost £29  per person.

Drive along the coastal road, past the beach resort areas of Glyfada, Vouliagmeni and Varkiza to the most southern point of Attica, Cape Sounion, where the white marble pillars of the Temple of Posseidon stand. After visiting the temple, you have time to walk at leisure on the rocky promontory of Sounion.

3. Delphi (One Day)

Daily commencing at 08.15 and terminating 18.30 - Cost £71 per person including lunch.

Drive through the fertile plain of Boeotia, crossing the towns of Thebes, Levadia & Arachova (short stop) to Delphi, the centre of the ancient world whose prestige extended far beyond the boundaries of the Hellenic world. Here, on the slopes of Mount Parnassus in landscape of unparalleled beauty and majesty, lie the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios. You will visit the Treasury of the Athenians, the Temple of Apollo and the museum which contains such masterpieces of ancient Greek sculpture as the bronze Charioteer and the famous athlete Aghias.

4. Argolis (One Day)

Daily commencing at 08.15 and terminating 18.30 - Cost £71 per person including lunch.

The coastal road leads north to your first stop at the Corinth Canal. Continue to Mycenae and visit the Lion's Gate, the Cyclopean Walls and the Royal Tombs etc. The picturesque town of Nafplion nestling below the mighty ramparts of the Palamidi Fortress precedes the highlight of the day in Epidaurus where you will visit the 4th century B.C. theatre famous for its astonishing acoustics.

What better way to visit the sites of history and legend than on an organised, professionally escorted motorcoach tour? The following tours, all originating and finishing in Athens, can be incorporated in most of our holiday itineraries:

1. Delphi (Two Days)

Daily commencing at 08.15 and terminating 18.30 (2nd Day) - Cost £112  per person on half board.

3. The Meteora Monasteries (Two Days)

Every Tuesday & Thursday commencing at 08.15 and terminating 18.30 (2nd Day) - Cost £129  per person on half board.

Day 1 - This morning you will travel directly to Delphi where you will have 2 hours at leisure before continuing to Kalambaka for dinner and overnight accommodation in first class hotel accommodation.

Day 2 - This morning you will visit Meteora and admire the 600 year old monasteries perched atop huge rocks and containing priceless historical and religious treasures. Later today, return to Athens via Trikala, Lamia, Thermopylae & Kammena Vourla.

4. Delphi & The Meteora Monasteries (Three Days)

Every Monday & Wednesday commencing at 08.15 and terminating 18.30 (3rd Day) - Cost £217  per person on half board.

Day 1 - As day 1 on the Delphi Two Days.

Day 2 - Morning free in Delphi. Continue to Kalambaka for dinner and overnight in first class hotel accommodation.

Day 3 - As day 2 on the Meteora Monasteries Two Days.

5. Classical Tour (Three Days)

Daily except Wednesday, Friday & Sunday commencing at 08.45 and terminating 19.00 (3rd Day) - Cost £217  per person on half board in first class hotel accommodation.

Day 1 - Leave Athens by the coastal road to the Corinth Canal (short stop). Drive on and visit the Theatre of Epidaurus famous for its remarkable acoustics. Then proceed to the town of Nafplion (short stop) before driving to Mycenae to visit the Archaeological Site and the Tomb of Agamemnon. Then depart for Olympia through the central Peloponnese and the towns of Tripoli and Megalopoli. Dinner and overnight in Olympia, the cradle of the Olympic Games.

Day 2 - Visit the Sanctuary of the Olympian Zeus and the museum. Drive north through the plains of Eliad and Achaia to Patras and then across the magnificent bridge over the "Little Dardanelles" and on to Delphi for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 - This morning, visit the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios and the museum before returning to Athens.

6. Classical Tour & The Meteora Monasteries (Four Days)

Every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday commencing at 08.45 and terminating 19.00 (4th Day) - Cost £367  per person on half board in first class hotel accommodation.

Days 1-2 - As per days 1-2 on Classical Tour (Three Days).

Day 3 - This morning, visit the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios and the museum before continuing to Kalambaka for dinner and overnight in first class hotel accommodation.

Day 4 - As day 2 on the Meteora Monasteries Two Days.
